TUI Holidays are the biggest tour operator in the UK. Part of the TUI Travel PLC as we know it now, was originally referred to as Thomson Tour Operations but was renamed in 1997. Thomson’s was founded in 1965 by a gentleman called Roy Thomson; they now have over 40 years experience under their belt. In 1972, Thomson decided to restructure the company and acquired Lunn Poly. Lunn Poly owned the largest chain of travel agents in the UK at this time and up until 2004, Lunn Poly was the companies trading name, after then it became rebranded as TUI UK in order to create a power brand. In 2007, Thomson Holidays merged with the popular tour operator First Choice, creating TUI Travel, with TUI owning 51% of the company and First Choice 49%. TUI Travel now serves in more than 20 Countries and over 200 destinations.
